Polish Babka
(yummy when spread with butter!)
Ingredients
1 cup milk
1/4 cup water
1 stick butter or margarine
Heat above ingredients briefly to about 120 degrees
3 cups flour
marachino cherries, halved
3/4 cup sugar
chopped nuts
1 teaspoon salt
raisins
1 pkg. dry yeast
cinnamon sugar
2 eggs
Ingredients
Mix flour, sugar, salt and yeast together. Blend in milk mixture,
add eggs and then more flour as needed until dough can be easily
handled. Knead about 15 minutes. Place in a greased bowl
and
turn so top of dough is also greased. Cover and let rise in warm
place until double in bulk. Divide dough in half. Roll
out each
half into rectangle shape. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, then
add cherries, nuts and raisins (amounts determined by preference).
Roll up, and place in greased loaf pans (seam side down), cover
and let rise again. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
(If you see the loaves browning too quickly cover with foil).
Note: When kneading, if dough is difficult to handle, grease
hands!
